Chuck and Lisa for the Porch Project - A Porch Portrait

Chuck and Lisa. Akron, Ohio.

"We're already a couple of homebodies, so staying at home isn't all that different than many of our days. But it is different.

I'm a cartoonist and have a small office ½ mile from home. I walk to work most days. Since I'm the only one in my office I could still go in, but I'm working more from home.

Our son Wes lives at home and is still doing shifts at Target. Our daughter Amy is a server (now "to go" only) at Lock 15 Brewery and Restaurant here in Akron. Because of their genuine concern for their "elderly" parents Lisa and I haven"t touched them or our grandson Joey in several weeks.

Lisa and I are doing more walking around the neighborhood than usual. And we're seeing more of our neighbors too, talking to them from opposite sides of the street.

Several days ago Governor DeWine asked Ohioans to fly their flags from their homes. I own 3x5 U.S. and Ohio flags and they're out around the Fourth of July. We decided that we had a better option for this situation. So we put up our Prayer flags on our porch. Bless and help all the people of the world, not just Americans.

I didn't realize how frighted I was because of the pandemic until I was locking up the house for the night. My wife and son were already asleep. As I locked the last door I knew that would keep bad people and the neighborhood critters out, but it could do nothing to keep a faceless virus from us.

Be well. Be safe. Wash your hands. Wear your masks."
