Dan and Meg for the Porch Project - A Porch Portrait series

You probably recognize Dan and Meg from either Venice Cafe, The Loft, or Popped! here in Kent. They've both been in the restaurant/bar/service industries for a long time. They're two faces we see regularly. They have been spending their time working on puzzles - admittedly taking care of a one-thousand piece puzzle quickly, which boosted their puzzle egos and led to the purchase of a two-thousand piece puzzle which is proving "way more than twice as challenging." They're doing a lot of dancing, playing video games, and, despite the stressors, seem to be in good spirits. It helps to be quarantined with someone you adore.

Dan and Meg are concerned about both short-term and long-term economics of the restaurant industry and how people will re-acclimate to being part of larger groups in bars or restaurants.

"Working in the bar and service industry you can always plan for winter lulls and the hyped up spring/summer, but none of us have ever planned for a lull like this. While trying to stay positive it’s hard not to think about how delicious a billionaires thigh would taste. In all seriousness though, most of us haven’t been able to receive our unemployment and have been patiently waiting for 3 weeks - if you qualify. We know the offices are working very hard for everyone applying statewide but it doesn’t make it any less stressful. Aside from the financials; not seeing your regulars, industry-family, or day-to-day customers is a huge bummer. If you’re missing your usual bar, just know they’re missing you, too. If anyone in the service industry is in need of help, or if you’re in a little bit of a better place financially, you can apply/donate to: restaurantstrong.org, USGBFoundation.org, rerf.us, coregives.org"

With Daniel Jobe Friend, Megan Sexton, Venice Cafe, Popped, and The Loft
