Charlie for the Porch Project - Photographing Communities impacted by Pandemic by Roger Hoover

Charlie, 77. Kent, Ohio.

Here's a portrait of my neighbor Charlie, 77. He purchased a guitar  and is learning to play while quarantined. He also asked if I could pick  up "Jim Beam Black. The largest bottle available" from the grocery  store. Seeing as they didn't have a large bottle, I delivered two.

Charlie is an incredible gardener who keeps his garden going in part  because he promised his deceased wife that he would. Everyone should  hear Charlie talk about his wife. Such reverence, respect and deep love.

I love seeing and talking with Charlie - he's incredibly well read and  knows more about jazz that anyone I know. I look forward to sharing a  glass of Jim Beam with him when this is all over.

Thank you all  for participating so far. I appreciate seeing your faces from a  distance. This project is making me feel much more human, seeing how  impacted we all are. There are moments of joy, sadness and kindness. You  know what? They're all allowed.
