The Finleys for the Porch Project - Photographing Communities impacted by Pandemic by Roger Hoover

Mike, Hannah, Patty. Kent, Ohio.

The Finleys, Mike, Patty and Hannah are presently on day 10 of  self-quarantine after Hannah’s semester in Spain was cut short by Covid  19. Hannah left Spain within hours of the country locking down its  border crossings to its citizens and visitors.

Two family deaths out of state have added increased anxiety as a family  that usually rallies together in times of need, cannot do just that. A  quick, socially distant minded, trip east to New York to lay Patty’s  dad, Fred Jakob, to rest was made. Many family members, from multiple  states decided not to attend adhering to the warnings and cautions of  spreading or catching the virus.

The funeral was the last allowed  by the church and the National Cemetery where Fred was laid to rest has  since closed its gates to visitors. A second funeral and celebration of  life for Mike’s brother-in-law, Tom Malone, has been delayed until  safer times.

“We are all working from home and trying to maintain a positive attitude. The fact that we, as humans, are social beings has become increasingly clear.”
